What is striker fired?

Striker-fired refers to a type of firearm where the firing mechanism does not have an external hammer, but instead uses a striker to ignite the primer of a cartridge. When the trigger is pulled, the striker is released and strikes the firing pin, which in turn ignites the primer.

This design is popular in modern handguns for its simplicity, reliability, and consistent trigger pull. Striker-fired pistols typically have a lighter and more consistent trigger pull compared to traditional hammer-fired pistols.

Some well-known examples of striker-fired pistols include the Glock, Smith & Wesson M&P, and the Springfield Armory XD series. These firearms are commonly used by law enforcement, military, and civilians for self-defense, target shooting, and competition.
